Perhaps the most illuminating story about Rachel Whetstone – veteran of Google and Uber and now a vice-president at Facebook – is that of  her 2008 wedding. Her son Ben was being christened in a small church in the Cotswolds. Whetstone wore a stripy cotton dress (‘Designer, but definitely not new,’ says a close girlfriend) and was characteristically bare of make-up. Her partner, Steve Hilton, then adviser to David Cameron, was equally informal.
